Membership Categories

We have categories that membership to Geological Society of Uganda falls under.
Below are the categories

Certified Membership

Shall be accorded to a person holding a minimum of B.Sc. degree or equivalent in Earth Science as defined in Article 5 (ii) above and shall have been approved by the Technical Committee of the Council. Such members shall have a minimum of two years of proven experience supported by documentary evidence by way of: technical reports, peer-reviewed journal articles etc. and shall have passed the Professional Practice Assessment of the Technical Committee.

Membership fee payable by a certified member shall be the prevailing highest Uganda currency note.

An Earth Science expatriate shall pay to the Society a membership fee of US$ 100.

Ordinary Membership

This membership shall be restricted to those members who will have a minimum of BSc. degree or equivalent in geosciences as stated in Article 5(a), and who will not have fulfilled conditions of Certified Membership. Membership fee payable under this membership shall be the prevailing highest Uganda currency note.

Honorary Membership

An Honorary Member shall be a person of distinction in the general field of Earth Sciences whether in the sense of academic merit, private sector or in public service and shall be proposed by Council and approved by the general meeting. An Honorary Member shall not be obliged to pay membership fee. Such members shall not be accorded any voting rights.

Corporate Membership

This membership shall be accorded to Companies, Organizations and Institutions with interest in utilizing the professional services offered by the Society.
Membership shall be categorized as below:

  1. Platinum:
      Shall pay membership fee, equivalent to 20 times the prevailing highest Uganda currency note.
  2. Gold:
    Shall pay membership fee, equivalent to 15 times the prevailing highest Uganda currency note.
  3. Silver: Shall pay membership fee, equivalent to 10 times the prevailing highest Uganda currency note.
  4. Bronze: Shall pay membership fee, equivalent to 5 times the prevailing highest Uganda currency note

Student Membership

This type of membership shall be extended to undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Earth Science as defined in Article 5 (ii) above. An eligible undergraduate student member shall first be a member of an institutional earth science association. Student Member shall be obliged to pay one tenth of the prevailing highest Uganda currency note as membership fee. Such members shall not enjoy privileges such as voting or holding any elective offices in the Society.

Associate Membership

An Associate Member shall be a person interested in Earth Science but who does not qualify as a Member and shall be approved by Council. Such member shall not be accorded any voting rights. Membership fee shall be equivalent to four times the prevailing highest Uganda currency note.

Life Membership

This membership shall be accorded to long serving member of the society with at least 10 years memberships. In order to become a life member, a person will be required to pay to the Society UGX. 5,000,000/=
